“Financial institutions, law enforcement and regulators are all exploring how to develop better detection and intervention systems.  Synthetic data, simulation and typology modelling are important parts of those solutions, and I’m looking forward to working with Stephen, Edgar and the team.”

Nick Cook

Nick Cook joins the advisory board of FinCrime Dynamics after a decorated career with the UK regulator. At the FCA, Nick held the position of Director of Innovation having previously had the role of Head of RegTech and Advanced Analytics. While at the FCA Nick Cook was accountable for leading the regulators RegTech initiatives, its data and analytics strategy, machine learning endeavours and external facing Innovate activities.

“Nick Cook's reputation for modernising regulation is world renowned, in particular through the application of synthetic data,” stated FinCrime Dynamics CTO Dr Edgar Lopez. “It was a pleasure to personally participate in a number of the innovation programmes that Nick created at the FCA, such as the Digital Sandbox. These initiatives were instrumental in the creation of FinCrime Dynamics. He promises to bring a great deal of valuable experience and insight to the company.”

Prior to joining the regulator, Nick qualified as a certified chartered accountant at KPMG where he worked in forensic investigations concerning regulatory, fraud and money laundering matters. He now holds roles as a Strategic Advisor in FinTech and RegTech at EY, Head of Global Strategy and Partnerships at the nonprofit Alliance for Innovative Regulation (AIR) and as Director of Sandbox Consulting. Sandbox Consulting provides strategic advisory and consultancy services in the fields of RegTech, FinTech, regulation and digital transformation.

“Hideous crimes and activities such as human trafficking, child sexual exploitation, and trade in endangered species and illegal weapons continue to blight our societies and harm citizens,” stated Nick.  “The ill-gotten gains from these activities are enjoyed and legitimised through global financial markets.  Criminals are leveraging increasingly sophisticated means and technologies to evade detection.  Our digital world is enabling criminals.  Far more needs to be done to use technology for good and reduce harm.  I’m delighted to be joining FinCrime Dynamics as an advisor.  Financial institutions, law enforcement and regulators are all exploring how to develop better detection and intervention systems.  Synthetic data, simulation and typology modelling are important parts of those solutions, and I’m looking forward to working with Stephen, Edgar and the team.”

Nick is also a member of Plural VC, a venture community of regulatory experts, operators, and investors providing intellectual and investment capital for the future of finance.
